A Probate Valuation can be provided upon sight of the goods or household contents. Sometimes we
are able to provide a valuation from photographs should the items not require closer inspection. Vehicles, jewellery and more specialist items will almost certainly require sight of.

We will provide you with a written valuation pertaining to market value of the chattels. We are able to offer a property valuation in tandem with the contents valuation.

Due to the varying level of complexity each case is different and as such we are not able to offer a ‘one price fits all’. Our valuations start from £49 plus VAT.

We provide a FREE on site Full Probate Valuation when our Property Auction and House Clearance services are instructed or subsequently a refund of you initial valuation fee.

For estates where IHT (inheritance tax) is payable, a probate valuation of chattels (personal effects, jewellery, furniture, china, pictures, collections, silver, white goods, brown goods, and cars) is generally required by HM Revenue and Customs. For estates below this threshold, it is often regarded as good practice depending on who and how the estate is being administered.

In the past, executors have sometimes used the house contents insurance cover figure as a basis for an estimate of the value. This is a dangerous practice as it often bears no relationship whatsoever to the true open market value as required by HMRC. A detailed Probate Valuation from an experienced and recognised company will mean an accurate assessment, no inexperienced guesswork,
the right amount of IHT and reduce the likelihood of an HMRC review at a later date.
