Modern Slavery Statement

Chapel and Chapel TISC Statement May 2022

The following Transparency in Supply Chain Statement is published in accordance to the requirements of Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act, 2015. It is policy for the statement to be updated annually.

Chapel and Chapel Auctions Limited understands and fully appreciates how important it is to support and uphold our responsibilities regarding human rights under the Modern Slavery Act of 2015. Risk Management Assessments are key to gaining knowledge of the possible risks involved which in turn allows us to ensure there is no modern slavery within our business or where applicable, our appointed supply chains.

Chapel and Chapel Auctions Limited have been established for over 100 years and have experience in all aspects of Asset Realisation. We are auctioneers to Essex Police and the HM Revenue and Customs as well as operating one of the largest house clearance companies in the South East of England.

Regular policy reviews mean we are constantly assessing all possible issues and problems that may directly affect the ability for our company to undertake its processes. We include all aspects of the supply chain within these reviews inclusive of our staff, customers and third party suppliers when used.

Generally our supply chain is relatively small – most actions and activities are undertaken internally by our own staff, transport, customer service, staff management, IT support, etc. This makes the process of management and assessment straight forward.

Outside of our internal management, our external supply chain includes commercial weigh bridge recycling centres, mechanics/vehicle maintenance, storage facilities, electricians, plumbers and general retailers.

Procurement of these services is undertaken by our managing directors, and it is procedure to assess and confirm that all external companies adhere to our code of practice and the requirements of Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act, 2015.

We understand that due diligence is a huge part of being able to assess our supply chain and reduce the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking. Internally we highly regard our social responsibility towards our staff which is reflected in our company policies, thus eradicating the chance of modern slavery internally. We employ all genders in a mix of full and part time roles, and our staff age range is from early twenties to early sixties.

We expect all external supply chain companies to have the same due diligence with regards their social responsibilities and codes of practice. We endeavour to work with and use companies that have transparent policies and procedures, as well as good social values similar to ourselves. This assures mutual goals and achievements continue throughout all aspects of our operations making sure there are safe staff working conditions, and that the treatment of all people within the supply chain is with the upmost dignity and respect.

It is policy to continually assess and improve all aspects of the TISC to ensure we are aware of our strengths, as well as weaknesses within the system, either internally or externally throughout the supply chain. These include but are not limited to –

  • Annual policy reviews
  • Assessment of the diversity and inclusion of staffing
  • Reviewing policies of external suppliers
  • Continual training and support of staff regarding Modern Slavery and ethical behaviour within the company
  • Gathering of information pertaining to client satisfaction
  • Risk assessments for various aspects of the working environment
  • Data assessment and planning in accordance to the results
